SOPHIE CRICHTON

Sophie Crichton, born in Toronto in 1993, is a contemporary visual artist currently based in Barcelona. Best known for her visceral and vibrant large-scale canvases, her artistic practice includes experimental wood and wire sculptures and an immersive video installation with painted, hanging fabrics.

Through a process based approach her work transforms abstract concepts such as time and the collective subconscious into a visual experience. Layers of gestural mark making and drawing structures create biomorphic forms that converge in atmospheric, psychological landscapes.

Embracing uncertainty, and a willingness to make mistakes, her approach to art making is an ode to the process itself- which in turn is an ode to the eternal now.
